This site is a work in progress. Programmatic, processing and data-fetching errors can occur. It is intended as a quick visual summary and timeline and should not be considered an authoritative source. For verification, consult the original sources linked throughout the site.
Since the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza exploded into full force after 7 October 2023, there have been many different efforts to document it, through scientific and academic research, institutional and independent media coverage, situation reports, human rights investigations, and extensive data collection.
The goal of this project is to supplement this work by bringing together statistics and evidence from many different sources and presenting them through data and visualizations.
This project draws on a wide range of sources to provide a succinct and accessible overview of the scale of Israeli violence, destruction, and deprivation in Gaza and the broader region since 7 October 2023.
Since 7 October, governments, media institutions, commentators, and Zionist organizations have repeatedly attempted to cast doubt on one important source used throughout this project: the Gaza Ministry of Health. Much of this distrust is justified on the basis that the Ministry operates under a government led by Hamas. But political affiliation alone does not prove dissemination of disinformation. The Ministry's figures are used by the United Nations and numerous humanitarian and human rights organizations, while independent analyses have repeatedly suggested that the recorded death toll is more likely to be an underestimate than an exaggeration.
The numbers themselves also cannot capture the full reality. People remain missing beneath rubble. Deaths caused indirectly by starvation, disease, the destruction of healthcare, and the conditions created by the genocide are impossible to know in real time.
The goal of Genocide Chronicle is not to speculate about geopolitics or pretend that every perspective on what is happening deserves equal weight. Its purpose is to document reality and allow the accumulated evidence to speak for itself.
The satellite tab is an interactive visual comparison of Gaza pre october 7th and after. Scroll through the months post october 7th to find a clear comparison. Use the split view to slide between pre and post october 7th imagery. Zoom in and toggle the damage assesment function to add categorized damage markers to the map.
The casualties tab is a collection of casualty and injury statistics as well as summary statistics. Scroll through the timeline to get an idea of the cumulative casualties at a given date. Press a number to open a graph window to see the development of the statistics over time
The infrastructure tab compiles statistics on different infrastructure related destruction. Use the tab exactly like the casualties tab.
The military activity tab is a timeline based collection of all attacks in the region involving the israeli government on an interactive map. Select through the categories to isolate them on the map. Press a circle to see the number of recorded events in that area and the geographic precision.
The reports tab compiles significant reports regarding the genocide in Gaza. From court decidions to human rights organizations and scholars. Scroll through the timeline to see each reports release. Select category to isolate the reports source and follow links to the source material.
The victims tab is a visualization of the identified victims of the genocide. On the histogram age distribution of victims, select category or simply select an age on the histogram itself to isolate that specific age or gender group. Below the age distribution is a dot visualization of that group, where each dot is one victim, and dot color signifies gender. Below that is a list of names of the victims belonging to that group.
The access tab is a collection of scraped data from UN reports, that follows the denial or impeding of humanitarian missions into Gaza. Scroll through the timeline reporting windows and note the graph visualizing denial percentage over time.

Data source: Copernicus Sentinel‑2 Level‑2A imagery processed from Element 84 Earth Search open data.
Damage overlay: When enabled, the map uses UNOSAT's historical comprehensive Gaza assessments. For each selected Sentinel‑2 scene it automatically chooses the most recent UNOSAT assessment dated on or before that satellite acquisition, so the damage observations change as you move through the timeline without using future assessment data. The layer is drawn only on the right/selected-image side of the divider and only at zoom 13–14. Polygon records are shown as translucent colored areas; point-only records are shown as small markers.
Damage assessment attribution: UNITAR/UNOSAT satellite-derived comprehensive Gaza building-damage assessments, distributed through the Humanitarian Data Exchange (HDX). This visualization is derived from UNOSAT assessment data and is not an official United Nations product. UNOSAT assessments are preliminary and have not been validated in the field. The overlay contains UNOSAT analytical damage data only and does not redistribute the underlying commercial satellite imagery.
